Slightly short today. It’s late and this is a last choice from the idea that just sprung into my mind. Late nights and its benefits. Oh how I miss the bed and refuse the dreams. Otherwise, enjoy.
THE ANCIENT DISEASE
“Captain! Captain! Reporting! Foreign object entering our safety zone. Coming in hot and fast!”
He sprinted up to the bridge and fidgeted as the metal door dematerialized. “Hurry, hurry, hurry!” Moments before it fully disappeared, he pounced in and landed with dried scab all over him.
“CAPTAIN! That’s very dangerous!” His co-captain slapped thick goo liquid all over him.
“A foreign object passing our shield with no scratches is dangerous. I will live.” He shooed the co-captain. “SONAR CANNON UP! In a count of one…two…thr…HALT!”
Everyone went still and quiet. Even his officers hands were hovering motionless on top of the controls while their eyes were bouncing between him and his co-captain.
“Err…Captain, impact in…eight, seven…”

“Err…Captain, impact in…eight, seven…”
'“Oh for goodness sake, put up the sonar and shoot!” The co-captain screamed.
“No!” He finally punched the control in front of him and the ship began to rotate.
“What the? CAPTAIN!”
“It’s our own escape pod! Put up the repellent and bounced it off! We need to catch it before someone…”
One of his officer gasped. “Unidentified vessel is approaching!”
He finished his sentence with a heavy tone,”else coming.” Then he sighed.
“Is that? I know that vessel! It’s Garuda!” His co-captain turned to him aghast.
He was too busy to respond. His hands faded into a blur on top of the controls.
His co-captain punched in a series of code onto her own controls and spoke,”Code name Sunan Ambu…” She turned to the Captain and yelled, “CAPTAIN! I need the light cannon!”
“CODE NAME ISMAYA!” He hollered while still focusing on his controls.
“Activate lightning zero and sub-zero.”
“Do not hit my pod! That’s the only one that survived all three.”
All of a sudden a high pitch ring filled their ears. One of the officers tried to yell on top of the commotion. “Message from foreign vessel.”
“Display,” she ordered.
The voice was familiar to her and the Captain. Much too familiar. “Hello cousins.”
They both growled.
The mocking voice continued, “committee’s indentured servants. I won’t ask twice. Surrender the pod. If I can’t have it, neither will you.”
“Terminate connection.” She shut the message off.
“I almost got it!” His eyes grew in excitement.
Another ping filled the air.
“What now! Block it!” She ordered in frustration.
“It’s encrypted. I can’t block it,” one of their officer replied.
“Let me see.” She jumped to another controls and tried it.
Suddenly, the screen went white and a face popped up with terror in his eyes. He begged, “please let the pod go for now. I will try to persuade my captain to release it after we collect what it contained. Please don’t force him to do the unthinkable.”
“Why should we trust you?” She hissed.
“Because it is infected. Scan it if you don’t believe me!” Pled the face.
“Captain!” She yelled, “you hear that?!”
“Yes! I am detecting a significant amount of radiation. Nothing that our vessel, Anantaboga can’t handle.” The captain dismissed with a wave of his arm.
“If the content is contained, yes! But if it exploded on the outside no!” Again the face begged. “Please.”
The Captain's quills vibrated in disapproval.
“Sorry, no go…” She was about to terminate the connection when the face hardened.
“Fine! Code name Narada.”
The Captain and co-captain gasped. “You are the mole?”
“Now you trust me?”
“What’s in it?” She implored.
“It is an ancient being.”
“Sure. Just throw any reason up to my face and I surely believe you.”
“The only thing I know is its code name, Pohatji. Ask your Captain in what level that is.”
“Captain?” She snapped her head to him.
“Purple. But Anantaboga is equipped to handle it. Doesn’t matter anyway, I’ve got it!” The Captain laughed.
“Oh, no!” The face closed his eyes and whispered, “brace for impact. May the Universe be forgiving to us.”
What came next buried their hearing and vision. When everything simmered down, the emergency alarm was bellowing.
VIRUS DETECTED, VIRUS DETECTED. CONTAMINATION AT HIGH LEVEL. INFECTION AT 50%
“CODE NAME SUNAN AMBU. Deployed medical assistance.” She slammed her hands on the controls.
MEDICAL ASSISTANCE INSUFFICIENT THEREFORE UNABLE TO DEPLOYED. INFECTION AT 80%.
“Overwrite. Code name Ismaya. Evacuate protocol.” His hands became a blur again.
UNABLE TO OVERWRITE. EVACUATION DENIED. INFECTION AT 99.9%
He turned to her and noticed her eyes whitened as the irises faded. The only time he ever saw it was when they were still a mere disciple and she accidentally released the last three escape pods. He ordered the only thing he could, “identify virus.”
The horror in everyone’s eyes were unmistakable. The only incurable one in the galaxy had given them a death sentence.
Virus identified. Species name : HUMANITY.
How is it? Does the ending predictable? Hopefully not. What you all think? Comments and sharing are warmly welcomed.
